Data center engineering is the multidisciplinary design and planning process that translates a facility’s IT load, availability target and growth plan into power, cooling, structural and security systems. With a planning capacity of more than 2,150 MW and engineering experience exceeding 1,300 MW, SERBAN provides independent engineering services to data center investors and operators.
Our engineering services can be delivered as part of a turnkey project or as a stand-alone consultancy. In both cases the objective is the same: a facility that is correctly sized, efficient, certifiable and ready for future capacity growth.
Our Data Center Engineering Services
Feasibility and Capacity Planning
Site selection, power supply analysis, IT load and growth scenarios, definition of the Tier target, and capital (CAPEX) and operating (OPEX) cost models.
Concept and Detailed Design
Master planning and layout, architectural and structural design, and mechanical (cooling, ventilation, fuel) and electrical (MV/LV distribution, UPS, generators, earthing) systems engineered to N+1 / 2N redundancy architectures.
Energy Efficiency and PUE Optimisation
Free cooling potential, hot/cold aisle design, liquid cooling readiness, airflow simulation (CFD) and verification of PUE targets at the design stage.
Commissioning Engineering
Commissioning plans, test procedures, and design and management of load bank and integrated systems tests (IST).
Project Management and Supervision
Contractor coordination, progress and cost control, quality supervision, design change management and handover documentation.
Standards and Tools
Our designs are prepared with reference to the Uptime Institute Tier classification, the TIA-942 and EN 50600 standards and the ASHRAE thermal guidelines. Interdisciplinary coordination is carried out in a BIM environment; electrical and mechanical calculations and CFD analyses are performed with industry-standard software. Our information security processes are certified to ISO 27001.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does data center engineering include?
It includes feasibility and capacity planning, site selection, concept and detailed design (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical), energy efficiency and PUE optimisation, commissioning engineering, and project management and supervision services.
Can I commission engineering services only?
Yes. Our engineering and project management services are also offered independently of construction. If required, the client may later appoint SERBAN as the turnkey contractor for the construction phase.
What does Tier III design mean?
In the Uptime Institute classification, Tier III requires all capacity components and distribution paths to be concurrently maintainable. This allows planned maintenance to be carried out without interrupting the IT load.
How do you improve PUE at the design stage?
Energy efficiency targets are verified at the design stage through methods such as assessing free cooling potential, hot/cold aisle containment, correctly sized UPS and transformer selection, CFD airflow analysis and modular capacity growth.
Which standards are your engineering services based on?
The Uptime Institute Tier criteria, TIA-942, EN 50600 and the ASHRAE thermal guidelines are our core references; local seismic, fire and electrical regulations are applied on every project.
